Welcome to my clog.
I’m a medical illustrator, trained at the University of Oklahoma and UT Southwestern Medical Center. I am the owner and lead illustrator at Shoemaker Medical and a professional member of the Association of Medical Illustrators.
I’ve lived in a lot of places, but I’m settling down geographically. I originally hail from Lansing, Michigan. (Oklahoma, Massachusetts, and Texas have all been called “home” as well.) I live and work in The Colony, TX, with my husband Clint.
Although I’ve had a couple of great jobs in biomedical visualization, I’m now devoted full-time to Shoemaker Medical, and couldn’t be happier. I enjoy being an artist; I am in it for the love of drawing and the love of science. How could I be any luckier? I hope you will explore the blog, have a few laughs, and get to know me better.

i’m always so impressed by my favorite kidney. i wish you success and happiness on your journey to the top!
About your kidney costume…….My 5 yr old son just received a kidney transplant and I am making him a kidney costume for Halloween. Can you explain how your costume was constructed. My audience will be hospital staff and I would like to make the costume as anatomically correct as possible. Many thanks for any advice you can give.
Best Regards,
Theresa Gappa
